6 Days Kilimanjaro Marangu Route Climb
Overview
The 6-day Marangu Route is known as the “Coca-Cola Route” for its relative ease and comfort. It is the only route with shared hut accommodations, offering a different experience compared to tented camping. The trail features beautiful rainforest, open moorlands, and stunning views of the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This climb is entirely private, whether you’re trekking solo or in a group. While the trek itself lasts 6 days on the mountain, the full itinerary spans 8 days, including arrival and departure.
Tour Highlight
Day 1: Arrival into Tanzania
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you’ll be picked up and taken to your hotel in Arusha. Rest and get ready for the adventure ahead.
Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Travel from your hotel in Arusha to Marangu Gate. Complete registration and enjoy a packed lunch before beginning your trek through the rainforest. The trail is lush and full of wildlife as you make your way to the first stop on the mountain.
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Trek from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut, leaving the rainforest behind as the landscape opens into rolling moorlands. Enjoy views of Kilimanjaro’s twin peaks, Mawenzi and Kibo, along the way.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day
Take a short hike to Zebra Rock, a unique volcanic formation, while enjoying incredible views of Mawenzi Peak. This day helps your body adjust to the altitude and increases your chances of a successful summit.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Climb to Kibo Hut, crossing the alpine desert zone. The trail becomes rockier and more barren, with stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s summit looming ahead. Rest and prepare for the summit push.
Day 6: Summit Day
Start your climb to the summit just after midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, as the sun rises. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut.
