7 Days Kilimanjaro Machame Route Climb

Overview

The 7-day Machame Route is one of the most popular ways to climb Kilimanjaro. It offers amazing views and a variety of landscapes, from lush forests to rocky trails and open plains. This route gives you plenty of time to adjust to the altitude, making it a great choice for a successful summit. Whether you’re climbing solo or with your group, this is an entirely private climb. Although the trek lasts 7 days on the mountain, the full itinerary is 9 days, including your arrival and departure.

Tour Highlight

Day 1 Arrival into Tanzania

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you’ll be picked up and taken to your hotel in Arusha. Rest and get ready for the adventure ahead.
Travel from your hotel in Arusha to the Machame Gate, where you’ll register and have lunch. Begin your climb through the rainforest, enjoying the fresh air and unique wildlife as you head to the first stop on the trail.
Trek from Machame Camp to Shira Camp as the scenery changes from forest to open moorlands. After lunch, take a short hike higher up to help your body get used to the altitude.
Climb higher as you pass landmarks like the Lava Tower. Then descend slightly to Barranco Camp, giving your body time to adapt. Later, go for another short hike to further prepare for the higher altitudes.
Start the day with an exciting climb up the Barranco Wall, a steep but fun challenge. Continue to Karanga Camp and take another short hike later in the day to help with acclimatization.
Make your way to Barafu Camp, the last stop before your summit climb. Take it easy in the afternoon, with a short hike to prepare for the big day ahead.

Begin your climb to the summit just after midnight under the stars. Reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, and enjoy the incredible views at sunrise. Afterward, descend back to Barafu Camp for a rest, then continue down to Millenium Camp.
